Aunt Sandy

One of the volunteers at the Xi'an CWI orphanage where Ahn-Bao is now, is affectionately known as "Aunt Sandy." She has been a wonderful resource and link to our boy ever since our referral in August. Aunt Sandy sent these photos on 12-30-07 to share . . .

Ready, Get Set, Go!

We were driving somewhere along I-90 in western Minnesota, on the first leg of our trip to visit family in eastern and western Nebraska on Friday, December 21, 2007, when my cell phone rang with a call from Woo, the China Program Coordinator at our Adoption Agency. She was calling to say that Santa had brought our Christmas gift early, and our travel approval to China had arrived!

Our China Consulate appointment is January 29, 2008 in Guangzhou and working backward from that date, we should leave on a plane on January 17 or 18 in order to arrive in Xi'an, Shaanxi, China to meet Ahn-Bao on January 20!

Tidbit, Yasmin's birthday is January 21, and Kia's birthday is January 22, and Ahn-Bao's Gotcha Day will be January 20!

Sherry will travel with her mom, Joan. Bob will stay behind in Minnesota to minimize trauma to Yasmin, Elias, and Kia and all will wait patiently to meet their new baby brother.

More to come as the planning begins in earnest!

Leslie & Keith's Visit to CWI

I met Leslie and Keith on a Yahoo Group of adoptive parents past, present and future of children from the Xi'an Children's Welfare Institute (CWI). Leslie and Keith were in China in December to have their "Gotcha" with their baby Isabel. During their time in Xi'an they took Isabel and visited the CWI and took a lot of wonderful photos of all the kids on the 4th Floor of the CWI. This is a tremendous "pay-it-forward" activity that has been such a tremendous gift to the many matched, adoptive parents like us who are waiting for their turn to travel to their own "Gotcha" -- including us. Below are some photos of Ahn-Bao that were a wonderful gift to us. You can see all of Leslie and Keith's photos of their CWI visit at Day 7 of their blog at
